A Little About Henna
What is Henna?
Henna is the Persian name for a plant called Lawsonia Inermis that produces a natural, safe dye from its leaves. the dried leaves are ground into a paste and applied to the skin. The Dye is absorbed into the skin much like lotion creating a temporary design that fades gradually over the next 7-14 days.
Who Uses Henna/Mehndi?
People all over the world and of different religions and ethnicities use henna. Though Mehndi is used in some religious practices and customs it is not sacred or religious in nature. Mehndi can be celebratory but is often used purely for the beautification of one"s body. Because of its temporary nature henna is suitable for most age groups.
Is Henna Safe?
Yes, henna is one of the oldest cosmetics ever used and is extremely safe.
However, there is no such thing as "black henna". In order for henna to produce black color a chemical dye known as PPD is added. "Black henna" should never be used. At ReMarkable Blackbird we uses only 100% pure fresh red-brown henna enhanced with fragrant essential oils to achieve elegant and richly colored henna stains. If you have any allergies please let the artist know.
